About the Stockholm County Library
The Stockholm County Library is part of the Stockholm public library organisation, and is designated as the national and regional unit.
The County Library
- - is entrusted with the task of carrying out regional and national library policy
- - is financed by the County Council and the state
- - is part of the general libraries organisation
- - is subject to the Libraries act.
The aim is to provide the county´s inhabitants with an effective and equal information and literature service, particularly children and young people, the disabled, immigrants and those living in rural areas.
The mission is that Stockholm County Library shall promote the development of library activities in the county and, in co-operation with the National Council för Cultural Affairs (Kulturrådet) and other county libraries, direct public library development in the country.
What does the County Library do?
The County Library`s main task is to develop and complement the activities of the county´s public libraries by:
- - supplying media, e.g. books, periodicals and talking books
- - contemporary social and environmental studies with a view to the future
- - development projects
- - education and further training within library-specific areas
- - information to the libraries in all relevant subject areas
- - joint marketing
- - advice to individual libraries
- - co-ordination for effective resource utilisation
- - reports requested by libraries
